I've always wanted to see Mr & Mrs Iyer, especially since I had seen and loved 15 Park Avenue last year. Finally this weekend just gone, I bought the DVD from ABC in Southall.
The film is brilliant. I probably wont ever list it in the list of my all time favourite movies or anything, but this is one film that truly leaves an impact. It's haunting because it's so real - any of us can experience a situation like this at any point in life. The film makes you think, makes you fear, makes you feel, and all this happens because of Aparna Sen's great filmmaking skills. Not a single leaf is left unturned and she truly does justice to the story! The screenplay is good too and the film doesn't drag at all though the entire pace in itself is quite slow but I guess that's because the film captures many moments rather then having over-dramatic subplots.
Rahul Bose & Konkona Sen Sharma are one of my favourite duo's both onscreen and offscreen. The first time I saw them together was their appearance on Season 1 of Koffee With Karan and their relationship was so appealing, also there's something about them physically that just 'matches' the way the likes of Amitabh-Rekha, SRK-Kajol and Rani-Vivek suit each other. I then saw them in 15 Park Avenue and now in Mr & Mrs Iyer and they've not failed to impress me - a great combination of actors and I hope they continue to work together time and time again 'coz it's a pleasure to watch them whether it's for a movie or an interview!
Rahul Bose is a complete natural - there's no two ways about that. No one can deny his talent, he's simply mindblowing. He performs this role with excellence! His dialogue delivery is IMO his biggest strength and his facial expressions, body language and overall performance are so fun to watch whether it's films like Mr & Mrs Iyer and 15 Park Avenue or Pyar Ke Side Effects and Jhankar Beats. He never fails to give flawless performances back to back - the man is amazing!
Konkona Sen Sharma has always amazed everyone with her capabilities, and with her touching portrayal of Meenakshi she continues to amaze me. She's another natural performer and one that has to be accepted as a brilliant actress regardless to what you feel about her otherwise! She handles the role with perfection and maturity... She did seem a bit uneasy with her English but I presume that was required for the role. A brilliant performance and I'm super-glad that she won the National award for this one, it's a shame Rahul didn't win the same
Both the characters were so layered and probably such a treat for actors to portray - and both Rahul & Konkona did complete justice to their characters, amazing performances!
Overall, I recommend this film to everyone! It truly is a brilliant film and the highlight of it are the performances by both Rahul & Konkona, so if you're a fan of either/both of them there is no way you should miss this!
